Personal Reflection (NEwater visit)

1) I learnt how our national taps work, how NEWater is made, and why is conserving water important.

2) I learnt about water conservation and water relamation.

3) I learnt that drinking pure H20 can result in hydrolysis which leaches nutrients, minerals and electrolytes in the body, through diffusion, and result in vital stuff getting too diluted so the body can't function.

4) Shower less...I shower 20-30 mins a day.

Individual Reflection (9th March)

1. What are the 3 key takeaways from today’s lesson?

We learnt that people may have prior misconceptions about a topic that makes them bias. Also, we should all work as a group instead of individuals doing all the work and the other group member slack. Lastly, we should prepare well and do our research instead of doing things unprepared.

2. Name 2 concepts that you have learnt today pertaining to design and describe why is it important in design?

We have to design our solution to suit our target audience, and to be carried out effectively. This would make the project more relevant, efficient. Also, we learnt to be original in our solutions and try not to use things that have already been used.

3. What is the 1 interesting thing that you have learnt today?

I learnt that before we carry out something, we should have the details, etc. instead of just saying we want to do a survey, we prepare the questions beforehand.

Photography (People)

Today for ADMT, we did some photography. Here are 5 of my better photographs.

I took this picture of Isaac in the ADMT studio after we were given time to take photos.

I think I'm the only one who took a photo of the cleaner uncle who walked past us. I asked him to let me take his picture. When I was done, I thanked him and he went on his way.

When I took a picture of Arthur, he didn't freak out. Instead he gave a nice smile. Sadly, the light and low resolution caused this image to not be that good.

The last pic is a pic with Matthew checking his camera for the pictures he had taken nearing the end of the day.

Photography

I think I know slightly more about photography than some of my classmates because I used my father's camera before.

Photography comes from Greek, and is loosely translated as drawing with light. This is true, as images are formed through using light. In the past, they used the camera obscura, usually to take an accurate image of nature. It was room with a hole to let in light, with n artist inside to paint out the image formed by the light. Nowadays, they use film which reacts fast with light to form an image.

Photography equipment, to name a few examples, a tripod, aperture, shutter, lens, photographic film, photoshop (???) etc.

The aperture is quite an important part, as it controls the amount of light entering. It does this by turning some teeth, which constantly form a whole circle.

A photography competition is where contestants submit their photographs on a theme, and the photographs are judged by a panel of judges. The winners get prizes, usually cash or equipment.

Difference between Perspective, Isometric, Oblique and Orthographic Drawing

Perspective drawing is mainly drawing from a view, and consists of single-point and two-point perspective drawing.

<-Isometric drawing is drawing an object using angles, and the drawing paper has special lines for angles.

Oblique drawing shows one face as a total frontal view, but is still 3D, with the other side being distorted. ->

Orthographic drawing is drawing from the view of one face of an object. ->

ADMT Lesson 1 : Personal Reflection

To me, ADMT describes some key elements of making and marketing a product.

Art

Art is essential in marketing a product in modern times. Art and design is interlinked, as design is about planning, and as modern buyers focus more on the aesthetics than the function, design has to incorporate art for the purpose of selling. Art is not only about drawing, but also crafting out an actual object, which most probably has been designed.

Design

Design is really about planning for something, most probably for the purpose to materialise the best possible product. Designing has many stages, such as research, planning, and revision so as to improve the planning, and the final stage is usually taking the final product, after making it, selling it.

Media

Media is a platform to share information, ranging from newspapers to the internet to the TV, but in this case, I am talking about media being used for marketing. This is used predominantly in the form of advertisement, but the less obvious form of advertisement is sponsorship, like in sports, where the logo of the company is displayed on the sportsman's uniform. Other than for advertisement, media is important as if you release important news, without media, few will ever know about it.

Technology

Technologies' purpose if to make doing work easier. It can be used for the above points. For example, you can use technology like a protractor or drawing software to make drawings neater, better looking. You can use technology such as organising or presentation software to design products, improve planning and organisation. For media, technology is vital for the sharing of information. Media has only became such a strong platform for advertising as technology has allowed the fast transmission of information via the internet, radio waves or even a printing machine.

I feel that an ADMT student should have a innovative and open mindset towards learning ADMT, mainly because that no primary school would teach ADMT, and that this would be very useful if we go down the entrepreneur path in the future.

My aspirations as an ADMT student would be to learn the engines through which ADMT work and learn their applications in real-life. Hopefully, I would be able to try them out, and use them for I&E opportunities.

I think I should be able to achieve this aspiration by being focused in class, and using them for the ADMT projects. Also, in our later years in SST, during industrial attachment, we can use ADMT for work and projects.

Life would be boring and dull without art, design, media and technology.
